Building
Permits
A Building
Permit is required for any changes or improvements made to a
residence, multi-family complex, business or industrial
structure, or empty lot. A permit is issued after Village
inspections determine if the structure is in full compliance
with al Village codes.
To be sure you
are in complete compliance with Village requirements, please
contact the Building Department before beginning any work. The
permit fee is nominal and could save you money and time, and
eliminate unnecessary mistakes.
Routine
repairs/maintenance: The following type of routine repair and
maintenance work does not require a permit: painting, tuck
pointing, replacing gutters, repair and patching work.
Roof
Replacement/Repairs: The complete replacement of a roof does
require a permit, while the replacement of a few shingles does
not.
Certificates
of Occupancy
Before the
completion of a sale of any property (residential, commercial
or industrial), the property owner must obtain a Certificate
of Occupancy from the Building Department. This certificate is
issued after Village inspectors determine that the property
for sale is in full compliance with all Village codes. Please
call the Building Department to request a Certificate of
Occupancy.
Certificates
of Registration
All contractors
and subcontractors are required to obtain a Certificate of
Registration from the Building Department before beginning any
work in the Village.
A bond in the
amount of $5,000 is also required. Certificate and bond fees
are in addition to currently required permit fees, and are
based on total cost of work being performed.
Satellite
Dishes
Any resident
wishing to erect a satellite dish is required to consult with
the Building Commissioner prior to its installation to ensure
compliance with all existing building codes and ordinances.
Grass/Weed
Height
The owner or
occupant of the premises must keep all weeds, grass and other
growth, other than ornamental shrubbery, trees and flowers,
trimmed to a height of 10 inches or less from the ground. Any
growth in excess of this height is considered a nuisance, with
