Water/Garbage/Sewage
Billing
Broadview
residents are billed monthly for water, garbage and sewer
services through the Village Office. The bill indicates the
net amount due before the due date, as well as the gross
amount due after the due date.
The gross amount
due includes a penalty for late payment. A shut-off notice is
sent after a resident after an account becomes 21 days late.
Partial payments
are not acceptable. Incorrect payments are returned, thus
risking a penalty fee. Cash is not accepted by mail, but can
be accepted in person at the Village Office. All
non-sufficient funds (NSF) checks will result in an immediate
shut-off of service. Once service has been shut off, a $50 fee
is required to reinstate service.
For questions
regarding water, garbage or sewer billings, please contact the
Village Office at (708) 681-3600.
Water
Rates -
Effective January 15th, 2007
Water rates
charged to residential, governmental, and commercial
consumers is $3.62 per 100 cubic feet billed on a monthly basis.
Water rates
charged to industrial consumers is $3.39 per 100 cubic feet
billed on a monthly basis.
Broadview buys
its supply of Lake Michigan water directly from the City of
Chicago. Under the jurisdiction of the Broadview/Westchester
Water Commission that was established in 1927, water is pumped
to consumers via the pumping station in Broadview located at
10th Avenue and Roosevelt Road.
A
million-and-a-half gallon, 100-foot-tall overhead water tank
was constructed in 1980 and is located at 25th Avenue and
Roosevelt Road, assuring an adequate supply of water in the
event of a fire.

Hints for Winter Weather: When Temperature Drops So Does Water
Temperature
In the winter months, water
temperature can drop from as high as 75 degrees Fahrenheit to
33 degrees Fahrenheit. Residents may notice that it takes
longer to beat the colder water during the winter months and
not as long in the summer. Cold air movement can cause water
pipes or water meters to freeze in just a few hours. The
following are steps you could take to eliminate these costly
repairs or inconveniences.
- Check the basement for
any cold drafts
- Check for any cracks in
the walls and seal them
- Put some form of
insulation around the water pipes
- Check doors, windows and
frames
- Repair any broken
windows
- Keep beat to all areas
of the home
- Let cold water trickle
in basement sink to keep water movement
Residents also may notice
that your cold water is sometimes cloudy. This is due to the
Lake Michigan water having a higher amount of dissolved oxygen
in it. This dissolved oxygen can give water a milky or white
look to it. You could do a simple test to prove if that's the
problem with the water.
- Fill a clear glass with
cold cloudy water.
- Let it stand a few
minutes.
The water should clear from
the bottom up. This is due to the water warming to room
temperature and releasing the oxygen to the atmosphere.
Residents of Broadview do not need top worry; our water is
safe to drink and tested weekly throughout the year.
If you have any questions,
please contact the public works department at (708) 681-3602.
Street
Sweeping

Residents are
asked to occasionally "clean sweep" the gutters in

prevents the clogging of sewers.
